Ruth C has lived in Greymouth most of her life and has been knitting since she was just nine years old. What began as a childhood skill soon became an essential part of her daily life, especially as she grew into motherhood. With nine children and now twelve great‑grandchildren, Ruth has spent decades creating handmade garments filled with warmth, care, and love.
Knitting gives Ruth a chance to relax and unwind, offering a quiet rhythm she has always found comforting. She especially enjoys making baby garments, knowing her work helps keep little ones warm and cosy. Seeing her knitted pieces being worn and appreciated brings her a deep sense of joy.
Alongside the personal fulfilment it brings, knitting also provides Ruth with a helpful extra income. She values being able to offer families affordable, hand‑knitted clothing items made with skill, patience, and heart. For Ruth, every stitch is a way of helping someone give their child something special, something made by hand to keep them warm.
She is proud to share her craft through Pins & Needles and to continue a tradition that has supported her family and community for generations.
